Maria saw Luni in the morning on her way to an appointment \u2014 and in the evening, she was still there. The old woman said, \u201cIf no one wants her, I\u2019ll throw her in the trash. There are enough other little cats\u2026\u201d<br\/>The woman wasn\u2019t cruel \u2014 just desperately poor. So Maria took the little one and gave the woman 10 euros. The woman began to cry and apologized to the kitten for having said something so horrible.<br\/>Luni came with us to the hotel. She devoured the hastily bought food as if she had never eaten before\u2026 The next morning, we took her straight to the vet. She was severely undernourished, weak, sick, and infested with fleas \u2014 likely only about 8 weeks old.   <\/p>\n\n<p>With a fresh passport, she arrived in Germany a few days later \u2014 and when I saw her, that was it for me. We already had one (bought) pedigree cat (a Maine Coon), just the kind of cat you &#8220;purchase&#8221;. But Luni\u2019s fate and condition truly opened my heart.<br\/>When I was home, she wouldn\u2019t leave my side \u2014 until she was about a year old. Huge house, huge garden, massive cat trees, top-quality food, lots of playtime \u2014 of course, also with Lea (the Maine Coon) \u2014 until life took us to Moldova.<br\/>There, of course, we encountered many more fates like Luni\u2019s \u2014 and bit by bit, (see the complete MOLDOVA CATS STORY HERE) we took in more and more of them\u2026 (our CATS).    <\/p>\n\n<p>By now, the unthinkable has happened. My Luni was brutally murdered with rat poison \u2014 three days after my birthday.<br\/>Over the last five years, I had taken thousands of photos and videos of her, intending to someday use them to promote this good cause. But I still can\u2019t comprehend that my beloved Lunchen is gone forever.<br\/>Gone\u2026 just gone. This completely innocent creature \u2014 cruelly poisoned.<br\/>This country holds endless cruelty.<br\/>I can only appeal to your hearts.<br\/>Please consider whether you have the space and financial ability to take in one \u2014 or better yet, two or three (cats are never lonely or bored that way; three is the ideal mini-group. But if you&#8217;re home often, one cat is okay too.
